Abstract

This paper proposes load-balancing algorithm on the basis of the Extended Dijkstra’s shortest path algorithm for Software Defined Networking (SDN). The Extended Dijkstra’s algorithm considers not only the edge weights, but also the node weights to find the nearest server for a requesting client. The proposed algorithm also considers the link load in order to avoid congestion. We use Pyretic to implement the proposed algorithm and compare it with related ones under the Abilene network topology with the Mininet emulation tool. As shown by the comparisons, the proposed algorithm outperforms the others in term of the network end-to-end latency, throughput and response time at the expense of a little heavier computation load and more memory usage on the SDN controller.

Abstract

Predicting arrival times of buses is a key challenge in the context of building intelligent public transportation systems. The bus arrival time is the primary information for providing passengers with an accurate information system that can reduce passenger waiting times. In this paper, we used the normal distribution method to the random of travel times data in a bus line number 243 in Taipei area. In developing the models, data were collected from Taipei Bus Company. A normal distribution method used for predicting the bus arrival time in bus stop to ensure users not to miss the bus, and compare the result with the existing application. The result of our experiment showed that our proposed method has a better prediction than existing application, with the probability user not to miss the bus in peak time is 93% and in normal time is 85%, greater than from the existing application with the 65% probability in peak time, and 70% in normal time.

Abstract

owadays, Internet social media has enriched the way people to communicate and interact each other. Will it be possible for people to interact with their home appliances around? This paper proposes a new approach in smart home system that made possible for people to remotely interact with their appliances using social media networks. In this paper, we present a smart home prototype system that leverages Twitter’s Application Program Interface (API) to remotely control home appliances over the Internet. Experiment results showed that the system immediately responds to remote commands sent over a social media account to control home appliances. The system responds the command in 3672.96 ms. Publish-subscribe method work better in mass announcement communication system. Home system could notice all householders in less than 6 s independently from number of householder. Our proposed method gives alternative solution to build reliable, fast and simple control method.

Abstract

Pervasive technology is an important feature in smart home appliances control. With pervasive technology, the user is able to discover and control every device and each service without initialization configuration and setup. Since single-board computer often used in smart home appliances, combining pervasive technology and microcomputer/single-board computer will be important to be applied and make a possibility to create a smart home system based on the requirement of it users that will be beneficial for the smart home users and the developers. This paper proposed a design of pervasive discovery, service, and control system for smart home appliances by integrating Raspberry Pi, UPnP protocols, and Xbee that able to control an RGB LED services such as switching, dimming, change color and read a temperature sensor as an example in smart home appliances. This paper enriched the raspberry Pi GPIO function to be able to control via TCP/IP network with UPnP protocol and receive information from a temperature sensor node via Xbee communication. Service control time is measured with UPnP round trip time by subtracting HTTP response arrival with HTTP request time. GPIO processing time measured at the application level by counting a timer that starts before GPIO process and ended after GPIO successfully executed.

Abstract

Abstract—The Internet of Things (IoT) is an integrated system consists of several components linking each other. A framework is often used to fasten the development of an IoT system. This paper presents MIOT, a general purpose gateway framework which utilizes a Smartphone as the main component to handle communication between IoT device and the Internet. MIOT provides a bidirectional end-to-end communication gateway for Smartphone to link the IoT device and the Internet. For evaluation purpose, two implementations of IoT prototypes are built: an environmental monitoring and a remote controller (RC) car. The implementation of both prototypes demonstrates faster development times and quick response times in data transfer. MIOT framework helps reduces time, effort, and learning overhead on building and deploying IoT systems. The use of Smartphone as the gateway in MIOT offers a trade-off between easiness, latency, and reducing IoT devices workload.

Abstract

Limitations of communications facilities and infrastructure in the residential areas of the fishermen create problems of information difficulty. Lack of signal availability from the nearest Base Transceiver Station (BTS) that can reach the fishermen's residential area. A solution is needed that allows the communication path from the residential area of the fishermen to the area available for communication facilities and infrastructure. From this issue, there are several methods that can be used to overcome this problem. One of the methods that are used as a solution is Delay or Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) network architecture, and another method utilize Crowdsource Mobile Access (CrowdMAC) to send message data packets to the destination device. In this paper, we carried out the integration of PRoPHET and Epidemic routing protocols to increase the level of the possibility of sending packets via multiple nodes with crowdsourcing.

7. Identifying Citronella Plants From UAV Imagery Using Support Vector Machine

Abstract

High-resolution imagery taken from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is now often used as an alternative in monitoring the agronomic plants compared to satellite imagery. This paper presents a method to identify Citronella among other plants based on UAV imagery. The method utilizes Support Vector Machine (SVM) to classify Citronella among other plants according to the extraction of texture feature. The implementation of the method was evaluated using two group of datasets: 1) consists of Citronella, Kaffir Lime, other green plants, vacant soil, and buildings, and 2) consists of Citronella and paddy rice plants. The evaluation results show that the proposed method can identify Citronella on the first group of datasets with an accuracy 94.23% and Kappa value 88.48%, whereas on the second group of datasets with an accuracy 100% and Kappa value 100%.

Abstract

The IEEE 802.11p is a standard in a vehicular communication system, known as Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE). An implementation of that standard as the MAC Protocol in a high-density of nodes in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) may create a performance drawback, in particular for packet loss and delay whenever collisions happen. Introducing Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) schemes can improve the performance. However, TDMA scheduling is difficult to manage the case of high-density of traffic, the high mobility of vehicles, and dynamic network topology. This journal proposes a clustered-based TDMA by traffic priority in VANETs. The clustered traffic is defined as high and low traffic priority and embedded in TDMA MAC Header. The evaluation result obtained through NS3 Simulator shows that the proposed approach performed better in a high-density of nodes.

Abstract

Proses rekapitulasi informasi mengenai kuantitas pemakaian listrik, air, dan gas dari pelanggan perusahaan penyedia utilitas umumnya tersedia melalui proses pengumpulan data secara berkala. Proses pengumpulan/pencatatan data tersebut dilakukan oleh petugas yang berkunjung ke setiap rumah-rumah pelanggan secara periodik. Banyaknya rumah yang dikunjungi menyebabkan pekerjaan mencatat data menjadi berat dan memungkinkan terjadi kesalahan pencatatan. Data yang tidak akurat berkorelasi terhadap kerugian finansial yang ditanggung perusahaan penyedia utilitas. Berbagai teknologi untuk memudahkan pencatatan seperti (Automatic Meter Reading) AMR telah diterapkan, tetapi masih memiliki permasalahan dalam proses pengiriman data dari perangkat pencatat ke pusat basis data. Penelitian ini mengusulkan pengembangan teknologi AMR dengan menerapkan mekanisme pengambilan data secara bergerak dan nirkabel dengan topologi jaringan mesh. Setiap perangkat AMR diasumsikan sebagai perangkat statis yang terhubung secara topologi jaringan mesh dengan perangkat AMR lain yang saling berdekatan dan dapat bertindak sebagai relay untuk kemudian mengirimkan data ke perangkat pencatat bergerak yang digunakan oleh petugas atau disebut perangkat Mobile Data Gathering(MDG). Perangkat pencatat MDG dapat mengumpulkan data secara bergerak mendekati salah satu perangkat AMR untuk mengumpulkan data dari seluruh perangkat AMR yang saling berdekatan. Kecepatan bergerak perangkat pencatat AMR berpengaruh dalam akurasi pencatatan dan jumlah data yang dapat dikumpulkan. Berdasarkan hasil uji simulasi dapat diketahui bahwa sistem pengumpulan data dengan mekanisme bergerak mampu mengumpulkan data dengan kecepatan terbaik 30 km/jam dengan jumlah data sebanyak 86% dari semua jumlah perangkat AMR.

Abstract

To maintain the availability of the patchouli plants required monitoring the spread of patchouli plantation. This study performed the identification of patchouli plant through Landsat-8 satellite imagery and Improved K-Means method. Improved was done on this study include the process of determining the initial cluster by specifying the closeness between the data and the determination of the number of cluster (K) by using the histogram equalization technique. The result of internal criteria testing shows that determining the number of clusters using the histogram is less effective because it produces the lower value of the silhouette. On almost all image data test found the best value of the silhouette's coefficient is 75.089% at K=2 and data in February. Furthermore, based on the results of testing the external criteria known the highest purity value in February data with a number of cluster 5 is 0.6829268. The test results also show that the use of the Improved K-Means on the Landsat-8 image has not been able to recognize the difference patchouli plants with other crops due to the limited resolution of imagery data and also the minimum number and variation of test data. But, visually the patchouli plant cluster is found for February data while the age of the rice crop surrounding the patchouli is still in the early phase of planting.

Abstract

Proportional tuition fees assessment is an optimization process to find a compromise point between student willingness to pay and institution income. Using a genetic algorithm to find optimal solutions requires effective chromosome representations, parameters, and operator genetic to obtain efficient search. This paper proposes a new chromosome representation and also finding efficient genetic parameters to solve the proportional tuition fees assessment problem. The results of applying the new chromosome representation are compared with another chromosome representation in the previous study. The evaluations show that the proposed chromosome representation obtains better results than the other in both execution time required and the quality of the solutions.

Abstract

Proportional tuition fees assessment (in Indonesian language called Uang Kuliah Tunggal in abbreviated UKT) is multi-objective optimization problem. The objectives are minimizing distance between UKT's price and the financial ability of the student, and maximizing university's income. The constraints are total of student's UKT price does not below the projection about minimum faculty's income, and constraint from the minister that number of student in category I and II is 5% per study program. The optimization was done by non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA II). The method that we proposed succeed to optimize the UKT's assessment problem. The evaluation shows that for 100 student data, the best result occurred when the number of population is 1000 or more, maximum iteration is 150, and uniform crossover and random exchange mutation is the best genetic operator with Cr 0.9 and Mr 0.1.
